Dr Macpherson Mallewa

Dr Mac Mallewa is a consultant Paediatric Neurologist and Associate Professor in the department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the College of Medicine in Malawi. His main area of research interest is central nervous system infections in children, including the interaction between viruses and plasmodium malaria in causing severe disease. He is currently involved in a number of clinico-pathological studies in severe malaria and the role other pathogens in retinopathy negative cerebral malaria, including non-malaria comas.
Dr Victor Mwapasa

Dr Mwapasa is a public health expert, research scientist and Professor at the University of Malawi, College of Medicine (CoM). His research focuses on the epidemiology of malaria and HIV, including testing the efficacy and effectiveness of novel diagnostic tests and interventions and evaluating public health implementation strategies.
Dr Linda Nyondo-Mipando

Linda is a health systems researcher and faculty member of the Department of Health Systems and Policy at the College of Medicine, where she teaches and supervises students’ research projects. She also serves as Deputy Dean of the School of Public Health and Family Medicine. Her interests are in Health Systems and Implementation Science Research with a focus on health service delivery including quality management.
Dr Nicola Desmond
Co-Principal Investigator & Social Science Head at Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust, Blantyre
Dr Desmond is a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a medical anthropologist by training. She is currently based in Malawi, where she leads the Behaviour and Health Research Group at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme. She leads the multi-disciplinary research work drawing on both qualitative and quantitative approaches in research and development of pragmatic interventions addressing behaviours associated with health engagement.
Dr Gareth Lipunga
BIGlobal Study Coordinator for Malawi at the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust, Blantyre
Dr Lipunga is a medical doctor trained at the University of Malawi's College of Medicine. He has a keen interest in Clinical Research and Internal Medicine as a future speciality. He has worked as a junior doctor at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and will be based at MLW as the study coordinator for BIGloabl in Malawi.
Dr Arnold Kapachika
Site Investigator & Machinga District Health Officer
Dr Kapachika is currently working with the Ministry of Health of Malawi as the Acting Director of Health and Social Services for the Machinga district, where he plays a key role in improving the health status of the 668,233 catchment population of the district. He is also contributing to research ethics governance through his membership in the hospital research committee.
Dr Arnold Jumbe

Dr Jumbe is currently the acting Director of Health and Social Services at Thyolo District Health Office. He is involved in resource mobilization, supervising members of District Health Management Team, supervising health centers, planning and budgeting, doing ward rounds at the District Hospital as well as teaching clinical and nursing students.
Dr Isaac Mbingwani
Site Investigator & Chiradzulu District Health Officer
Dr Isaac Mbingwani is a District Medical Officer at Chiradzulu District Hospital. He is a clinical head and oversee clinical services across 15 health facilities. He manages implementation of at least 10 programs in the district. One of his core duties is conducting implementation/operational research within the district and any other research. He is developing his career in research and has keen interests in infectious diseases.
